Marcus: hey, are you sure the names of these movies don't show up on the bill? john: laughing ; no, actually they do. i was lying to you earlier when i said that it wouldn't show up. he laughs more. marcus doesn't. ; marcus: upset ; what was that? john: glaring at tv ; huh? marcus: the bill. what was that you said. john: oh, come on. it's a joke. marcus: a joke. john: yeah, lighten up. marcus: lighten up! that's easy for you to say. i'm the one that has to go down there in the morning and pay for the damn thing. john: don't do this, marcus. we've been getting along so much better than. marcus: you've been lying a lot lately, you sleazy little prick. john: serious ; look who's talking. marcus: belligerent, getting in john's face ; it's two divorces not three, and i don't think my relationship history has anything to do with my stand on family values. john: get out of my face. marcus: two divorces, not three. john: while we're clearing the air, what the hell does smoking a joint have to do with anything. marcus: people should know if they're going to elect a pot-head. john: that was six years ago. With more and more forms of legalized gambling available like the new casino in nearby french lick, so does the high potential for addiction to develop. according to the national council on problem gambling, hoosiers spend more annually on gambling than movies, recorded music, theme parks, spectator sports and video games combined. overall, gambling has become indiana's 5th-largest source of tax revenue. treatment resources for problem gambling remains limited with only 16 states receiving state funds for gambling treatment however efforts continue to be made to address this concern. amethyst house offers services to assess and treat compulsive gambling addiction. the increase of gambling addiction can be attributed partly to the lottery. on may 3, 1989, the first lottery act was ratified by the indiana general assembly and was quickly signed into law by the governor. today, indiana not only has a lottery, racehorse tracks, off track horse betting parlor, slot machines, and video game terminals but 10 riverboat gaming casinos scattered along its northern and southern boundaries. legalized gambling in indiana has resulted in billions of dollars of capital investments by casinos and the wagering tax paid by riverboats exceed 20% of all gross revenues. despite all the financial benefits legalized gambling has provided for the state of indiana, it harms many hoosiers and their loved ones. often, it starts very casually with the purchase of a lottery ticket with a gasoline or food purchase but it can very easily and quickly grow into harmful behavior. problem gambling is defined as behavior that causes disruptions in any major area of life: psychological, physical, spiritual, social or vocational. this category includes the conditions known has "pathological, " or "compulsive gambling", a progressive addiction characterized by: increasing preoccupation with gambling; a need to bet more money more often; restlessness or irritability when attempting to stop; "chasing" losses; and loss of control manifested by continuation of the gambling behavior despite mounting, negative consequences. among the problem gambling population, studies identify a significantly higher rate of suicide, debt and bankruptcy, illegal activities, divorce rates, and unemployment. estimated cost to society from problem gamblers is about billion per year, according to the national gambling impact study commission.Choices were canceled last minute. something i missed from the conference booklet was if the program was geared to a newbie or experience librarian. i think in the past level of experience was also listed. i walked out of 3 workshops that were geared for the novice. if i had known that beforehand i would have chosen another workshop. after i left the newbie workshops i wasn't able to get into my other choices as they were already full. all in all a good conference. if you don't go to an pre-conference, open the exhibits in the afternoon, have some other tours available in the afternoon of the preconference. empty time. food availablity choices at the conference center was poor and costly. i felt that reno was not convenient to get to. there must be a medium-size city in the west that has better direct flights. i don't know how hotels are chosen, but the atlantis where i lucked into staying because of research on the internet ; would have been a better choice of hotel for the conference than the downtown hotels. i felt the conference programing was excellent. however, i did have some concerns about the conference being "green" and the hotels were a 20 minute shuttle ride often with only 7-8 people ; away. the high gloss program was not on recycled paper. i did notice a couple of times there were two programs ie weeding or booktalks ; subjects that have limited interest i didn't say unimportant. ; i just don't go to a national conference to learn about weeding. new books, yes. also, having the first "green" conference in reno a city that doesn't sleep and has lots of lights ; seems to be a bit of an oxymoron. while i enjoyed my stay in reno, i found it to be one of the more difficult locations we've visited. our flight options were limited, and the conference hotels were not very close to the convention center. i also wonder if vendors felt the same, as it seemed to be a smaller group in the exhibits hall. i loved daniel pink, and wish he had been included on the conference dvd cd recordings. i'm guessing his contract prohibited it, and that is a shame. i found the room allocations a bit odd - there was one session in a room for 400 that had only 30 attendees. another that appealed to my grade level was held in a room that seated less than a hundred and i was closed out of that session. that, plus cancellations, was my biggest disappointment with the conference. but hey - we won at the slots! great conference. loved, loved, loved the two guest speakers at the opening and closing! thank you for all your efforts! i never had to wait for the shuttle bus to or from the convention center. i liked that the area in the convention center was not so large. it was easy to navigate and find your sessions. this was one of my best conferences and i've been around for a very long time. thanks. i feel that the air quality in the convention center was bad. whenever my nose and sinus plugged up as soon as i entered the center. i had a headache and it seemed that i could taste something in the air. it was so dry that my lips blistered. everyone from my school district was having problems breathing. please find a closer place and one without air quality problems next year. please have the vendors open and stay later so that we don't have to choose between going to sessions and going to vendors. the location of the conference center and the major hotels was too far. conference center was a good layout but the bus situation was too long after a tiring day. some of the sessions were not as professional as i would like but you will know from evaluations. food choices for lunch were not good, too expensive and poor quality. exhibit hall was well layed out and directories clear. this was my first experience at a national conference, and it was wonderful! from beginning to end, the sessions were timely, and the speakers were informative. loved the keynote, and the book. everyone who was involved in preparing this experience did a great job. thank you for all your hard work! i was a little disappoined to find three of my concurrent sessions cancelled and one that was full. reno would not be my first choice of places to visit and getting there was difficult, but in the end it all worked out. and, the weather was certainly better than pittsburgh! reno was very difficult to get to, consuming an entire day at each end of the trip. the number of plane changes and layovers, coupled with bad weather and time change really made it a difficult place to get to. i would think that if nevada were the state that needed to be represented, then you would choose the major city of las vegas to hold the convention, making the commute easier for the attendees. in retrospect, i would not have attended reno and will not attend any future conference that entails a plane change to travel to. silver legacy hotel was a disappointment. i was lucky enough to be able to stay at the atlantis hotel next to the convention center. i heard many complaints from others that the conference hotels were so far away from the conference itself. so i was really, really pleased with the location of my hotel. there were a couple of sessions that were not what i expected so was disappointed with a couple of sessions. a minor detail of having to purchase cocktails at the closing gala was disappointing too. other than that i had a great conference experience! greetings! thank you for the opportunity to provide input on the conference. here are some ideas that are intended to help with future planning: 1. a "neutral" or "not applicable" response is needed for the survey. 2. if the purpose of the electronic handouts was to "go green, " would you want to consider a far lighter events schedule planner ; , i.e., the book was heavy and included unnecessary of the content. 3. was the exploratorium only open for two hours? it is a shame that displays were created and that so few attendees could view this information. i would like to see this, and poster sessions, available throughout the conference. 4. would it be a priority to provide access to as many sessions as possible? if so, some topics could be presented in 45 minutes, i.e., there could be two short presentations in the same time slot as a 90 minute presentation. some of the demonstration best practice sessions could be easily provided in a shorter time slot. some of the presentations would be ideal for a poster session. 5. would another way to expand the number of sessions be to shorten the lunch time? other than using this time for lunch or attending the exhibits, this was an open two-hour block for many people and casino bonus. There are many goals people in achaea aim for, from riches to political power, to mastery of combat, but one of the most difficult to achieve is attaining the status of greater dragon. since the day that aringar became the first mortal in memory to be gifted with the soul of a dragon by ashaxei, the white dragon of han-tolneth, many have aspired to this lofty goal. the greater dragons are not the animalistic, ravenous monsters that prey upon unwary travelers - those are the lesser dragons, like yudhishthira on polyargos. as you know if you've read achaea's mythology, the greater dragons bore the aldar forces to rescue the gods from destruction at nishnatoba. they are a noble, and extremely powerful, race of beings who dwell on their own plane of existence, created for them at the end of the chaos wars, called the parthren gare. upon reaching level 99, you will be presented with the opportunity to choose to become one of six types of greater dragon: red, black, silver, gold, blue, or green. it should be noted that there are no particular alignments or personality traits associated with the different kinds of greater dragon. that sort of simplicity is only found in the lesser dragons. indeed, the only difference between the colors is that each has a different breath weapon. remember that if you ever fall below level 99, the spirit of the dragon will be lost to you until you reach level 99 once again. as a dragon, you have the following additional powers: dragonform lesserform gut player summon breath weapon type change your form into a dragon. change back to your lesser form. gut someone with your talons. summon your breath weapon. each type of dragon has a different breath weapon. the types are as follows: black acid gold psi green venom blue ice silver lightning red dragonfire unleash the fury of your breath weapon. the effects are as follows: blue cold damage. chance of becoming frozen. black acid breath. unblockable damage. gold psychic damage instead of breath weapon. chance of eq loss. silver electric damage. high chance of epilepsy. green poison damage. chance of a random venom affliction. red fire damage. sets the target on fire also. heal all of your afflictions in one fell swoop. try to knock your enemies down with your enormous tail. curse an unlucky victim with a variety of afflictions. travel to the parthern gare. To establish a confidence level for the hypothesis. if a 5: ratio between the three choices is observed, the player would need to play 43 rounds for the hypothesis to be statistically significant at the p 0.5 level. ; if a player beats eggg at chess, that suggests that the player is better than eggg at chess. but what does that tell us about the player's innate ability? less than it would seem. the commonly accepted elo 7 chess ranking system assumes that a player's performance can be described by a normal distribution, but as beasley 8 points out, this is almost certainly not the case, and the research supporting this contention is specious. some eggg strategies rely on an assumption that the player has less than or more than ; a particular degree of skill. it is one thing to say that our best estimate for the player's skill is 0.7; how can we estimate the likelihood that the player's skill is less than 0.8? the beta distribution is used to estimate the player's skill, allowing eggg to establish confidence levels for estimates other than the most likely. the system maintains the entire play history, and weights more recent outcomes more heavily to account for improvements in the play of both the player and eggg. the beta distribution yields both an assertion about strength and a confidence that the strength is accurate. the strength is easy to calculate: just the mean of the distribution, which is trivially the number of wins divided by the number of wins plus the number of losses. the confidence is defined as the inverse of the variance. for instance, if a player plays eggg ten times and wins seven times, the strength is 7 10 0.7, and the confidence is 1100 21 52.381. making interesting moves and probabilistic bluffing. when the confidence levels for all its strategies is below a particular threshold, eggg has little information about how to play; every opportunity seems equally attractive. eggg sorts the available moves from most to least attractive based on the static evaluator output. early versions of its computer opponents would simply choose the first move on that list, without regard to whether subsequent moves were equally attractive. the result was dull play: given a game state, eggg would always make the same exact move. so what eggg does is to choose randomly, but to make the probability of each move proportional to its attractiveness. the proportionality is not linear. if two moves are available, one with a score of 10 and the other with a score of 1, it would be folly to choose the worse and online gambling casino. Smock.his neither more nor less so than those of the other members of the staff.kept from me absolutely none of the details, none of the specialized services, none of the changes taking place in that immense facility. i saw everything, i believe, really saw everything, smelled everything, from the inoculation station, to the dungeon of the tabetics, 132 to the nursery suffering under the waves of flies, of the section for the "hereditaries." these little ones, "infant syphilitics, " seemed among other things to have been very well prepared, aforehand, awaiting me in the passageway, well forewarned, where they were to play for the visitors always the same role, the same little comedy. they were waiting for me in the dining hall.sitting at table before so many bowls, in groups, by dozens, in a circle, shaven-headed, greenish, blithering hydrocephalics, the good majority of them idiots, between six and fourteen years old, prettied-up to make a good impression with their little bibs, very heavily embroidered, but filthy. a bit role. upon our entry, they all rose as one, and then all together they took to chanting something in russian was the sentence! The top row of the structure is the verbal labelling line- children can recognise and generate the number words one. two. three. . the second row is meant to capture the idea that children have a routine for pointing at or tagging a set of objects as they say the number words in such a way that each object is tagged only once in the process. initially this is a sensory-motor process, which can only be applied to real objects, but it becomes a purely cognitive one, which mentally simulates the more primitive sensory motor activity case and okamoto, 1996 ; . the third and fourth rows represent conceptual interpretation through which children understand that each number label has a set size associated with it and that this set size has a certain canonical perceptual form. the children also understand that movement from one of these set sizes to the next involves the addition or subtraction of one unit. the bottom row indicates that children can recognise the written numerals from one to five. the horizontal arrows indicate transformations or rules for movement that allow children to move forwards and backwards from one item to the next in any row. the vertical arrows signify that children understand that there is a one-to-one mapping between each row and the next. the big brackets at the end indicate that the child knows that movement forward or backwards along these rows is a movement towards more or less griffin and case, 1997, p.8 ; . griffin, case and siegler 1994 ; discovered that a number of children in low-income communities who had achieved a chronological age of six were performing at the threeto four-year-old level on a measure they had designed to test children's understanding of number number knowledge test, griffin, case and siegler, 1994 ; . according to griffin and case 1997 ; when children come to school without the competencies implied in the central conceptual structure, it can mean that there has not been a heavy emphasis on counting and quantity in their early environments. griffin and case 1997 ; advocated that the knowledge implied in the central conceptual structure should be the core focus of the early school curriculum, so that children who have not yet acquired the knowledge in the conceptual structure will have an opportunity to do so and children who already have the knowledge will have an opportunity to strengthen it. they designed an intervention programme called rightstart to enable children to acquire the knowledge implied in the central conceptual structure. the programme was used over a period of three years with small groups and whole classes of kindergarten children attending schools in canada, massachusetts and california griffin and case, 1997 ; . the children were all attending inner city schools with large minority populations and were from low-income communities with school populations considered to be at risk of school failure. the results of the study indicated that the rightstart programme was effective in enabling children to acquire the conceptual knowledge that it was designed to teach. following the success of rightstart, griffin and case 1997 ; developed a more.
